"City Calls on Ministers" (Shreveport Times)

From the 21 December 2007 Shreveport Times:

"Ministers are the key to Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover's latest crime-fighting initiative.

Over lunch Thursday, Glover and Police Chief Henry Whitehorn presented 'End the Silence, End the Violence,' a campaign to get ministers involved in changing attitudes and mobilizing volunteers in their communities.

'With your unique position, you have influence you can exert,' Whitehorn said. 'Even though a person may not be a Christian, they look to you as leaders.'

More than 60 pastors from various denominations and neighborhoods listened as the chief and mayor outlined the problems of crime and some possible solutions."

Our Minister - Rev. Dr. Madeline (Lyn) Oglesby

On 17 July 2005, our congregation approved calling Rev. Lyn Oglesby to be our minister by an overwhelming vote.  Here's a short biographical sketch provided by our Ministerial Search Committee during Lyn's candidating week:

"We felt at home with her right away and we think you will, too.  We will present a short biographical sketch just to give you a quick view of the more extensive one you will find at church.  Her world view has the depth and insights that come from raising a family in India, Nepal and Japan.  Her comfortable friendliness comes from her Texas childhood.  She has the calm wisdom of someone who is quite capable of handling whatever needs to be done.  She has a wealth of experience and talents to bring to our congregation.  She is energetic and eager to begin parish ministry at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church."

To contact Rev. Lyn Oglesby, please call her at (318) 868-3313 or email her at minister@allsoulsuushreveport.org.

Rev. Oglesby's Sermons

We have some of Rev. Lyn Oglesby's recent sermons online:

You will need Adobe Acrobat software to read these sermons (free download here).

Please also keep in mind that reading a sermon online may tell you a lot about us but a sermon is best experienced as an oral art form in the context of community worship with others.
