Please join us on Sunday, 21 May 2006, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM for a congregation-wide intergenerational conversation on youth ministry (see this link for an event flyer -- requires Adobe Acrobat Reader or other PDF viewer software).
This congregational conversation is part of a two year denomination-wide project and should help us successfully integrate youth into our religious community. This conversation will allow us to explore how our congregation and the Unitarian Universalist Association can strengthen its youth ministry in our congregation and throughout the UUA.
The desired outcomes of the Consultation on Ministry To and With Youth are:
1. A youth ministry that is robust, flexible, and diverse
2. Denominational youth work that focuses on serving local congregations
3. An authority structure that respects the rightful role of institutional youth and adult leadership, while supporting the growth and empowerment of all UU youth
4. Antiracism and anti-oppression work infused within every part of youth ministry, while recognizing there are many ways to do this work and the “right” way depends on individual identities
5. Effective communication within, between, and among continental, district, local, congregational, and organizational levels.
Conversations should focus on the future, rather than the past. They should provide space for participants to envision a wider array of opportunities for youth and a stronger youth ministry in your congregation.
The congregational conversation process includes these elements:
** Diagnosis -- What is our youth ministry like? How does our youth ministry relate to the survey findings?
** Vision -- Thinking outside the box and beyond youth groups, what can our youth ministry be?
** Needs Assessment -- What do we need to achieve this vision?
** Next Steps -- What do we need to do more of? Less of? Differently?
